一九三九年夏，在日本占领下的上海。王沐天和三四个同样十六七岁年龄的男孩进行着他们幼稚的抗日运动。王沐天姐姐的未婚夫洪望楠是国民党空军的工程师。他秘密潜回上海网罗飞机制造人才，为中央飞机制造厂制造战斗机出力。与此同时，王沐天的表姐桑霞从新加坡来到上海。其实这个桑霞是冒名顶替的，她是一名共产党员，她的目的是为新四军从海外购买药品等物质打通一条通道。在桑霞的引导下，王沐天从一个懵懂的爱国青年逐渐成长为一位坚定的革命战士。而在这段时间里，王家和洪家的这些年轻人，也经历了种种的风雨考验，踏上了不同的人生道路。。Four teenagers suffered from a lack of love and warmth from their families.
