清初顺治年间，摄政王多尔衮把持政权，冒辟疆等义士行刺多尔衮失败，洪承畴利用江南名妓董小宛迷惑多尔衮，并将其外甥女带子派到董小宛身边当侍卫，小宛入宫被太后得知召见，赐顺治为妃，董小宛嫁顺治后，诞下皇儿，顺治欲立太子，但被多尔衮阴谋杀害，顺治得知，决定在多尔衮大寿日毒杀之，多尔衮寿氏曰在洪承畴巧妙安排下，董小宛亲敬毒酒杀多，而洪承畴乘机制服馀党，太后深恨董小宛杀多之仇，授意洪承畴暗下杀机，带子为救董小宛不惜于洪承畴拔剑相向，冒辟疆也为寻董小宛潜入皇宫……。Two places are in focus in this soap.
