抗美援朝时期，志愿军某团在坚守无名高地的战斗中勇敢作战。刚从医院回部队的战士王成要求参战，并拿出父亲鼓励他杀敌立功的来信给张团长和王文清政委看，王文清始知王成就是自己的老战友王复标的儿子。在战斗中王成英勇奋战，壮烈牺牲。在全军开展向王成学习的运动中，王文清认出该军文工团员、王成的妹妹王芳就是自己的亲生女儿。原来十八年前，王文清在上海做地下工作时，妻子被敌人杀害，不久他也被捕，老工人王复标收养了他的女儿王芳，此后双方失去了联系。王文清没有立即与王芳相认，而是帮助她完成歌颂王成的创作任务，并鼓励她以实际行动向哥哥学习。后来，当王芳在阵地上为炊事员演出时，敌机突然来袭，她为掩护炊事员而负伤，被送回祖国医治。一个月后，王复标参加慰问团赴朝慰问，王芳也伤愈归队，三人在前线团圆。王复标将真情告诉王芳，两位父亲都勉励王芳向哥哥学习，当好革命接班人。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
