1942年，几个很普通的德军士兵从温暖的海滨随部队调往斯大林格勒前线，很快他们就被残酷的战火吞没了。随着冬天的来临严寒成了比战斗更可怕的东西。在冰天雪地里他们想的不是如何作战，而是如何活下去。每天都有上千德国士兵死亡。德军的溃败就像一场大灾难，士兵们一个个死去，最后的两个人在幻想着回乡的温暖中冻死在了白色的冰面上。。Edwin Antony (Hywel Bennett) is emasculated in an accident which kills a young philanderer. Doctors successfully replace his member with that of the dead man, but refuse to tell him the full story of the organ's origin.
